3. Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana completes nine years
The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana completed nine years of implementation on January 1, 2026, and is considered a significant achievement of the Government of India in the field of maternal health, nutrition, and women's welfare. It is a centrally sponsored scheme implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development on January 1, 2017, under Section 4 of the National Food Security Act, 2013.
4. World's Rare 'Sandalwood Leopard' Spotted in Karnataka
An extremely rare leopard species, named the "Sandalwood Leopard," has recently been confirmed for the first time in Karnataka. This is the second recorded sighting of such a leopard in India. The previous sighting was in the Ranakpur area of Rajasthan in November m2021.
5. Construction of 3D-printed automatic weather stations begins in India
Indian scientists have developed automatic weather stations using 3D-printing technology, marking a
significant indigenous achievement in the field of meteorology. This initiative is being undertaken under Mission Mausam, led by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology. The first phase of these 3D-printed automatic weather stations will be installed in Delhi from February 2026, strengthening last-mile weather data collection capabilities in urban areas.
6. China Launches New Missile Destroyer
China recently inducted an advanced warship named "Loudi" into its navy, reflecting its rapidly growing maritime power and ambitions for global dominance. This warship, part of the People's Liberation Army Navy, is considered a significant step towards challenging the US Navy. The Lodi is a Type 052D guided missile destroyer designed for multi-purpose operations.
7. Kalai-II Hydropower Project Approved
The proposed Kalai-II hydropower project in Arunachal Pradesh has come under scrutiny after the Expert Appraisal Committee of the Union Environment Ministry recommended environmental clearance for the project. The project, proposed on the Lohit River in Anjaw district with a capacity of 1,200 MW, is being developed by THDC India Limited.
8. Integrated Security Hub Launched in Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated an integrated command and control center in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a significant step towards strengthening security and good governance in the islands. Along with this, nine development projects were inaugurated and the foundation stone was laid for two new projects, representing a total investment of ₹373 mcrore.
