Under a new law set to take effect in January 2026, Turkmenistan has legalized cryptocurrency mining and exchanges, marking a significant policy shift in its traditionally tightly controlled economy. The law, signed by President Serdar Berdimuhamedow, grants legal recognition to digital assets by bringing them under the purview of civil law.

3. Air Marshal Tejinder Singh Assumes Command of South Western Air Command

On January 1, 2026, Air Marshal Tejinder Singh assumed charge as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the South Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force. Upon assuming command, he paid tribute to the fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the War Memorial, a symbolic act reflecting military tradition and a sense of duty.

4. Tiger Deaths in India 2025: 166 Tigers Died in India

According to data released by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), 166 tiger deaths were

recorded in India in 2025, 40 more than in 2024, highlighting new challenges associated with tiger conservation. These deaths included 31 cubs, indicating that ecological pressures are increasing rapidly with the growing tiger population. Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest number of deaths with 55, followed by Maharashtra, Kerala, and Assam.

5. Central Government Appoints New Chief Justices for Kerala, Patna, and Meghalaya High Courts

Based on the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium meeting held in December 2025, the central government has notified the appointments and transfers of Chief Justices for the Kerala, Patna, and Meghalaya High Courts. This move is considered significant in filling vacancies in the High Courts in a timely manner and ensuring smooth judicial administration.

6. Google Allows Users to Change Primary Gmail Address

Google has launched a new and long-awaited feature for Gmail users, allowing them to change their primary Gmail email address. The most notable aspect of this feature is that it does not require creating a new Google account, nor does it risk any data loss. Even after adopting the new email address, the old Gmail address will remain active as an alias, ensuring that users continue to receive all emails sent to that address.

7. Economy Growing Strongly, Banking Sector Robust: RBI Report

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released its December 2025 Financial Stability Report, providing a

detailed assessment of the banking and overall financial system. According to the report, India's financial system remains strong and resilient despite global uncertainties. The country's real GDP growth in the first half of FY 2025-26 exceeded expectations, registering 7.8 percent in the first quarter and 8.2 percent in the second quarter.

8. Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti

Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti was celebrated with reverence and enthusiasm across India and worldwide, with the Sikh community organizing special kirtans, Nagar Kirtans (religious processions), and service activities at Gurdwaras. This festival highlights values such as bravery, equality, and religious tolerance in Indian culture. Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born in 1666 CE in Patna Sahib and was the tenth and final human Guru of Sikhism.
